Stromanthe Tricolor or Triostar Plant

Stromanthe Sanguinea

The Stromanthe sanguine is native to the rain forests of Brazil. This variety of the Stromanthe has leaves in different shades of white, red, pink and green. A Stromanthe can be grown indoors or outdoors, but will not survive a hard freeze. Since a Stromanthe is a relative of the Prayer Plant its leaves will fold up at night as though praying. Stromanthe produce reddish-pink flowers in the Spring, but are admired for their dazzling leaves.

LIGHT

They prefer bright, indirect light, but no direct sun. A north or east facing window would be best.

WATER

Content divider

Keep the soil slightly moist at all times. Do not over-water or the roots will rot. In the Winter, allow the soil to dry out a little more, but never completely.

FERTILIZING

Content divider

In early Spring and to the end of Fall, fertilize the plant every two weeks when the plant is producing new leaves. Dilute the plant food to ½ the recommend strength. DO NOT fertilize in the Winter because this is the plant’s dormancy period.

TIPS

  • A Stromanthe needs high humidity so mist between waterings or place the plant on a tray of pebbles.
