Variegated or Ruby Rubber

Ficus Elastica Variegated

Ficus Tineke Ruby is a variegated rubber tree plant that has unique foliage and an easy plant for a beginner. Native to India and Malaysia, this variegated rubber is similar to its burgundy cousin in appearance and care. The only difference is that Tineke Ruby requires brighter light conditions to keep its unique pink, white and green tri-color foliage looking bright and defined.

LIGHT

Variegated Rubber Trees need well-lit rooms with indirect sunlight. Avoid direct sunlight because it will burn the leaves. DO NOT place a variegated rubber tree in shade because it will lose the variegated markings. The ideal lighting is a sunny spot shielded by a sheer curtain. If the leaves begin to drop or lose color, it means the plant needs more sunlight.

WATER

Before watering the plant check that the top 1-2” of the soil is dry. Once dry, water thoroughly, make sure water can drain from the bottom and do not let it sit in water. Variegated Rubber Trees need water every 5-7 days in Summer and every 10-14 in Winter, or when leaves look wilted.

FERTILIZING

These houseplants do not need much fertilizer. Only fertilizer during the Spring and Summer with ½ the recommend strength once a month. No feeding is needed during the Winter months since growth naturally slows down.
