BROMELIAD GUZMANIA

Bromeliad is a well-known tropical epiphyte plant that grows in the ground, on rain forest trees, logs, rocks and other plants. Popular as a striking houseplant with a lifespan of about 2 to3 years. Bromeliad comes with broad, succulent leaves and colorful foliage and only flowers once in its entire lifetime. The flowers last for about 3 to 6 months. After a healthy bloom, the plant stops growing and begins producing offshoots called pups. They are visible at the base of the plant, thus giving the impression of a secondary bloom.

Light requirements depend on the type of Bromeliad you have. If your Bromeliad features soft, flexible and spineless leaves, they will most likely enjoy lower light levels. If your Bromeliad has stiff, hard leaves, it will prefer bright, indirect light.

A Bromeliad is likely to die from over- watering than under-watering. Their roots do enjoy a moist environment, but they can’t remain soggy. Too much water can the plant to develop root or crown rot. It is just sufficient enough to water your Bromeliad once per week.

Feed the Bromeliad by spraying a liquid fertilizer directly onto the leaves a few times each season. A dilute plant food at ½ to ¼ the recommended strength is recommended. NEVER put fertilizer into the central cup of a Bromeliad Plant.
