Always a popular class! Learn how to start your garden from seed this year. Gloria, our own propagation expert, will discuss seed selection, planning and timing, along with steps for growing healthy vegetable and flower seedlings.

    Bring in your own fun container (no larger than 6” diameter) and create your very own miniature garden. We will learn how to pick out plant friends, then plant, and add decorations to create your own landscape! This program is recommended for ages 6+.

    Kokedama Workshop - $35


    Learn the art of Japanese hanging-string gardens. Based on a form of bonsai, these moss covered hanging orbs make wonderful living gifts. Cost includes; hands-on instruction, easy care houseplant and all materials. This is a very hands workshop, so be prepared to get messy!

    Spring Turf Renovation with Dan Kallen - $10


    Dan knows his turf from working in golf course management.  Learn how to start a new lawn or renovate your existing one with conventional and organic methods.     Backyard Chickens with Maureen Breen - $10


    Maureen of “Philadelphia Backyard Chickens” will teach you how easy it is to raise a backyard flock. Learn everything from choosing the right chicks, setting up a coop, and keeping them happy and healthy year-round. Primex will be selling baby chicks this spring! This is the perfect starter course for your new flock.

     

    Maureen is also an advocate for legalizing backyard chickens in Philadelphia, you can request to join their Facebook group Philadelphia Backyard Chickens here. This group is for everyone living in the Greater Philadelphia area. They are a valuable resource for all things chicken related & the group is always willing to answer your chicken questions!

    Hypertufa Class - $60


    Join our staff for a delightfully messy, hands-on hypertufa trough-making workshop. Hypertufa is a lightweight, porous concrete mixture made from Portland cement, peat, and perlite. Your finished 13” x 8” weatherproof container will welcome plants that like well-drained conditions such as sedums, hens and chicks, cacti, and rock garden plants. Ideal for those with limited space, troughs can be planted as miniature gardens or to display choice specimens. Your instructor will provide individual attention and step-by-step instructions from mixing and molding to after care. Bring a pair of heavyweight kitchen gloves and wear clothes that can get dirty. You will take your trough home in its mold, and unmold it 2-3 days later to finish it. This is a 2 hour class.
