Anna B. Pratt Early Childhood Center

On Friday December 8th, 2017 Primex Garden Center attended the grand opening of the Agricultural and Environmental Learning Center with Outdoor Engagement Learning Gardens at the Pratt Head Start Center. Primex Garden Center designed and installed the Outdoor Engagement Learning Gardens with vegetables, herbs, shrubs, and perennials. We outfitted the Agricultural Lab with an aquaponics system, a worm composting unit, seed starting supplies, grow lights, tropical plants, butterfly and ladybug kits and more. Primex is extremely proud to have been involved in this innovative project which will serve as a model for other early learning programs throughout the Philadelphia region. Special thanks to Hydrofarm and Coast of Maine for their donations toward the project.

Kencrest Early Learning Centers

Back in April 2017, #WeekoftheYoungChild continued at KenCrest Early Learning Centers with their Northeast Center hosting our very own David Green as a guest reader! Bringing a basket of fresh eggs and “Green Eggs and Ham” the kids had a great time, as did David! In October, we stopped by and donated approximate $100 worth of products and labor. We spruced up the outdoor play area, containers, & raised beds and installed fall plantings. To learn more about how you can partner with KenCrest to help children in your area, click here.

Watson T. Comly School

On Friday, April 21, 2017, Primex Garden Center lent a hand at Watson T Comly Elementary School with principal Kate Sylvester. With 180 students involved, we planted 12 raised beds and one elevated garden bed, in addition to two hopscotch boards out of pavers. The students planted a variety of herbs, vegetables, and perennials. Thanks Gronomics and Coast of Maine Organic Products, Inc. for helping our project!

St. James School

On Tuesday, April 4, 2017, Primex Garden Center lent a hand at St. James School in Philadelphia with Lisa Turner, the gardener for both St. James and Penn Charter. We supplied them with soil to top off the existing beds as well as helped them plant some herbs and vegetables.

James R. Lowell Elementary School

On March 8, 2017, Primex Garden Center joined our friends at the James Russell Lowell School in Philadelphia and helped them install seven Gronomics raised beds (3 with Trellis) and get their inside agricultural lab going with lights, trays, soil test kits.

Backyard Eats & J.S. Jenks School

This past year, Backyard Eats, under the guidance of Chris Mattingly, along with help from Primex Garden Center installed 3 raised garden beds on the concrete schoolyard. They were able to run a summertime community garden and an after school garden club for 10 kids in grades 3-5th. The smiles on the children’s’ faces really tells an amazing story! We are so proud to be a part of this project!

United Day of Caring 2016

On Saturday September 24, 2016, Primex Garden Center, alongside School District of Philadelphia and United Way of Greater Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey, gave time and resources as it took part in the 2016 Day of Caring Event. We assembled benches, planted new containers, assembled and planted new raised beds (Thanks Gronomics!), and added compost and mulch to the newly planted areas. Primex supports the United Way and its mission to provide children with a quality education and directly support the areas where children learn, play, and grow.

Northern Childrens Service

On April 23, 2016, Primex Garden Center helped out Northern Children’s Services and their new children’s garden. Three Cub Scout packs participated alongside students from Philadelphia University and Saint Joseph’s University to build 4 raised beds, in the pouring rain, and plant some lettuce and greens to get things started.
