  • Keswick Theater Presents: Late Nite Catechism

    05/06/2018

    291 N Keswick Ave Glenside, Pennsylvania 19038

    291 N Keswick Ave Glenside, Pennsylvania 19038

Keswick Theater Presents: Late Nite Catechism

Late Nite Catechism is, an uproarious piece of theater that takes audience members back – sometimes nostalgically, sometimes fearfully to the children they once were. The irrepressible Sister teaches an adult catechism class to a roomful of “students” (the audience). Over the course of the play, Sister goes from benevolent instructor, rewarding the “students” for correct answers with glow-in-the-dark rosaries and laminated saint cards, to authoritative drill sergeant. These abrupt mood swings are bound to strike a resonant chord with everyone who survived the ups and downs of going to school, with an omniscient authoritarian at the helm.

2005 Beechwood Blvd Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania 15217

Penn State Extension Presents: Healthy Trees, Healthy People – $65

Community health and livability is codependent on the health and care of its forest canopy. Research provides a wealth of information on the social, health, and ecological benefits that trees provide. Healthy Trees, Healthy People is a two-day program featuring presentations on the link between human health and community forest health, as well as information essential to the care of community trees. It is a great opportunity to share ideas with foresters, arborists, shade tree commissioners, and others.

This is a two day event. Registration fee of $65 covers both days. The first day will take us outside to explore examples of the role of community forests in contributing to healthy communities. During this afternoon field trip, we will see an urban tree nursery’s efforts to develop healthy and genetically diverse trees, the impacts of oak wilt on tree canopy in a city park, and how active neighborhood volunteers organized to care for their street trees. The field trip will wrap up with a visit to a furniture workshop to see how reclaimed urban wood is being transformed into fine furniture.
