Penn State extension’s Growing Greener program is partnered with historic Grumblethorpe Mansion, a historic house and farm built by John Wister in 1744. Grumblethorpe is run by the Philadelphia Society for the Preservation of Landmarks and provides entrepreneurship, nutrition and horticulture experience for school children from John Wister Elementary School. Students from the school have successfully grown vegetables and flowers and continue to run a successful farm stand to sell their goods to the community. The garden is also open for educational tours. Primex has supported this program by providing Earthboxes and seeds for the students to learn about growing fresh vegetables.
