Penn State Extension: Home Food Preservation: Tomatoes and Salsa – $15

In recent years, there has been increasing interest in home food preservation. Canning is one method of food preservation that allows you to enjoy garden tomatoes all year long. While this method of home food preservation has existed for centuries, we have learned a lot about the science behind this practice in recent years. Home Food Preservation: Tomatoes & Salsa will explain the scientific reasoning behind today’s recommended methods for making and processing tomatoes and salsa while dispelling food preservation myths and unsafe practices of the past.

This workshop will review the following:

    • The basics of water bath and atmospheric steam canning for processing tomatoes and tomato products.
    • The latest canning recommendations related to acidifying tomato products.
    • Use of research tested recipes in canning salsa and other tomato products for safety.
    • Fruit salsas.

  • Penn State Extension: Managing Invasive Plants

    July 24, 2019

6510 Schantz Rd. Allentown, Pennsylvania 18104

6510 Schantz Rd. Allentown, Pennsylvania 18104

Penn State Extension: Managing Invasive Plants – $75

Invasive weeds and pests are a major threat to our natural and cultivated landscapes, spreading quickly and displacing or killing native plants. Invasive species (plants, insects, and animals) are costing the United States more than $138 billion each year, due to their economic impact on agriculture, forestry, fisheries, waterways, wildlife, and ornamental landscapes. Ecologists now rank invasion by exotic plants, animals and pathogens second only to habitat loss as a major threat to local biodiversity.

A portion of the day will be spent in the field looking at invasive plants, the results of management, and a calibration demonstration.

This is not a Primex affiliated event. To sign up please visit extension.psu.edu/managing-invasive-plants.

435 W Glenside Ave, Glenside, PA 19038, USA

435 W Glenside Ave, Glenside, PA 19038, USA

    Georgia Peach Truck – $45

Georgia Peach Truck rolls into town with whole boxes of Rolling Freestones®, the farm-to-street freestone peaches from our authentic Peach State. Freestone peaches are the peak season varieties to purchase by the box, because they freely separate from their pits for slicing in the kitchen or eating fresh out of hand. Share a box this summer, and cook, can, or freeze a box for winter!

One box of Rolling Freestones® is $45 with no limit on the purchase of multiple boxes. Each box contains one half bushel by volume that weighs approximately 25 pounds, and the peach quantities vary upon sizing from about 50 to 70 peaches in most boxes.

Complement a box of Georgia peaches with a bag of Front Porch Pecans® from Lamar Pecan Company in Hawkinsville, Georgia. A one pound bag of 300 – 350 shelled pecan halves that are graded fancy for presentation is $16.

If July doesn’t work – don’t worry! The Peach Truck will be here in June too!

No advance order or purchase is allowed! For more information, visit Georgia Peach Truck on Facebook
